EUSD BOND UPDATE By: Tim Baird Superintendent AS OF MARCH 1,2011 This month... The district is finishing up data gathering and forming the detailed plan for the next year and a half. Before school adjourns for the year... The District’s first move will be to get the teachers their work tools by the end of the school year. We will be ordering Macbook Pros for all classroom teachers. The second move is to initiate a series of pilots using IPads with students, teachers, and administrators. A 21st Century work group made up of administrators and teachers will be leading this research and design project. This 21st Century workgroup is also exploring best software tools and the integration of project-based learning and technology in our classrooms. Grades 2-6 currently have access to our new student data-base and test analysis software program, Illuminate. Our goal is to let teachers become familiar with the program this year and next year start using it for attendance, grade books, and report cards. The program also has a student/parent portal so that they can check assignments, grades, and absences but that feature will not be activated until teachers are comfortable with the grade book program. Over the Summer…. The 21st Century classroom plan will be put into place. Every classroom will be outfitted with a projector, printer, sound system and a document camera. Although we are still defining some of the standards for these tools, we will expect that all classrooms will be ready to start the school year. Some specialty tools such as electronic white boards are still being evaluated and may not be in place at the start of the school year in primary classrooms as we originally planned. At the same time, we will need to begin our transition to an expanded wireless system. Currently, our system is designed to support primarily wired devices. Our vision for the future will be that most of our tools will be wireless and this will require an expansion of our wireless network. By mid-next school year... We are planning to roll out some of the student tools. This plan is still under development but our goal is to phase in student tools over the next few years after upgrading the infrastructure and putting the teacher and classroom tools into use. |
