“Everyone is welcome here.”
“Everyone feels welcome here.”
It’s only one word of difference, but it’s a big one. I saw this key distinction noted in something I read last week (posted by the Banff Film Festival, a lifelong passion of mine). It stuck with me because it speaks to what all schools should strive for. And it’s never something that we should say is done, because each new day brings a whole new set of opportunities to communicate with and relate to each other. I hope you find that your experience, and that of your child, is that of feeling welcome, and if there are ways you think we can better support our students and families, please reach out. Email, SSC, PTA, Chats, or catch me before or after school – I want to know how we can be the best school we can be!
This is always one of my favorite weeks of the year, reading the report card comments for our students, the thoughtful words from our teachers that highlight all of the hard work your students have been engaged in. Words that accentuate the beautiful young people that your children are becoming with their individual gifts and talents. Thank you for choosing to send your child to Flora Vista - we are fortunate to have them, and I feel very lucky to be a part of this community!
Please make sure to check out the note in this eNews about "Walk Through the Wheel". Each year, our short- and long-term enrichment programming is built based on input from the annual community survey in spring and your financial support. Thank you for your input and support in making our students' experience the best it can be!
Lastly, a couple words of assistance needed in the area of safety (please make sure to share with anybody that picks up or drops off your child). All drivers, please make sure to slow down in the drop-off lane, and to ONLY use the curb for dropping off and picking up students. Punctuality and attendance are of course important, but nothing is more important than keeping our students and community members safe at all times. Thank you for your help!
