School Safety Information

Dear Flora Vista Parents,

As many parents are aware, our school takes the issue of safety very seriously. If you’re a new parent or just new to the conversation, we encourage you to join any of the upcoming and ongoing forums to learn more, to ask questions, to find out how you can do your part to help keep students safe, and to know what to do in the event of an emergency. A number of agencies are involved in our protocol reviews in EUSD, and our FV/EUSD staff is always reflecting on how we can improve our protocols and trainings. (Note: We have a lockdown drill planned for this Friday at 8:30 AM. This is NOT an Active Shooter drill.) For more information about this and other safety items, please attend key safety information events, such as:

Monday, October 7, 2:30 PM in the FV Media Center

Public Share-out and Input regarding FV Safety Plan (SSC Meeting)

Thursday, November 7: School Emergency Safety Information Night

A District-wide session for parents, presented by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office

Includes several officers from the Encinitas sheriff and a Q&A session

Finally, building on the philosophy that the safest school community is one in which all students and staff feel connected and included, next week is one of the signature events at Flora Vista: “Start With Hello” Week (SWH)! (We run ours a week after the national week because it’s important to have our 6th graders with us for SWH, and they’re at 6th grade camp this week.) SWH is just ONE of the ways that we focus on creating and maintaining an inclusive school community. Learn about SWH HERE, and be on the lookout for highlights next week!

In Gratitude,

Chris Juarez
